Preview:BENEDICT RUBBRA
“This exhibition, celebrating my eightieth birthday, can be seen as an extension of the 2015 retrospective at RAMM in Exeter. The work again focuses on my technique of constructing thee dimensional forms that become the point of departure for each painting. The structures also become the space in which I can develop ideas. In the process of the making I can manipulate and alter shapes and colours and directions of light with total freedom until a conclusion is made. The structures are then acutely observed and the painting begins; and when painting is finished the structure has served its purpose.
The recent canvases will be shown together with a selection of drawings and relief prints.
Since arriving in Devon in 2001 the Topsham Art Room has given me four solo exhibitions and the book Benedict Rubbra a point of balance by Jenny Pery was published in 2011 and initiated the move towards the retrospective at RAMM.
I am now delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit at the Plough Arts Centre.”
