PETER STILES
If you would like to see a short film about the show - please visit
This exhibition features an eclectic mix of everyday images - Plymouth Lido sparkling in the sunshine, charity shop windows, kitchens, hallways, waterfalls and rock pools.
Charity shop windows are the equivalent of the cabinet of curiosities that Renaissance princes put together in order to entertain their guests. From a purely visual point of view they are an encyclopedia of different shapes, patterns and colours where any combination is possible. Where else could you put a wheelbarrow, a rocking horse and a wedding dress together in a picture?
Peter Stiles has had recent one man shows at Plymouth Arts Centre, The British Academy, London, The Black Swan in Frome, the Site festival in Stroud and Walcott chapel in Bath. The Plough show will go onto Devonport Guldhall in August.
