A taut, wonderfully imagined novel brimming with skulduggery at every turn, The Impossible Thing is a blazing testament to Belinda Bauer’s status as one of our greatest living crime writers.
From the two-time winner of CWA Crime Novel of the Year and Sunday Times bestselling author of Snap and Exit, discover the gripping new mystery about a hungry young girl, an impossible discovery, and a crime that remained unsolved for one hundred years . . . until now.
It was the greatest mystery never told . . .
Belinda Bauer grew up in England and South Africa and now lives in Wales. She worked as a journalist and a screenwriter before finally writing a book to appease her nagging mother. With her debut, Blacklands, Belinda was awarded the CWA Gold Dagger for Crime Novel of the Year. She went on to win the CWA Dagger in the Library for her body of work in 2013. Her fourth novel Rubbernecker was voted 2014 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year. In 2018 her eighth novel, Snap, was longlisted for the Man Booker prize. Her books have been translated into 21 languages. She has also written the thriller High Rollers under the pen-name Jack Bowman.

'[The] most ingenious of crime writers . . . A funny, moving and beautifully written tale' The Guardian

Shelley Cox
Shelley Cox lives in beautiful North Devon with her husband. She loves nothing more than a good psychological thriller where, with clever writing and literary sleight of hand, the reader is deliberately led the wrong way through a story. Having long dreamt of writing her own novel, her husband’s prostate cancer diagnosis, and her subsequent breast cancer diagnosis, made her realise that life is too short to just dream. Genesis Flood is her debut novel.
"The concept for my novel, Genesis Flood, was sparked after my brother went missing in Thailand for 24 hours following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. Thankfully he turned up safe, but many weren’t so lucky and never got closure. It got me thinking: if you hated your life and wanted to disappear, a disaster of this proportion would offer the perfect escape. Would you take it? And what would be the consequences if you did?"
