Richard Meyer and Eilean Eland
Richard Meyer has exhibited his vibrant and sometimes provocative oil paintings at The Plough twice before. Unquiet Life focuses on 'Still lifes' which are actually anything but 'still'; his paintings are often richly impastoed and as much about the plasticity of oil paint as subject matter.
Eilean Eland’s ceramic sculpture is energetic and very personal, inspired by fecundity in the female form and in nature. The pieces are semi-abstract and refer to growth and re-growth as a metaphor for the reshaping of identity, with a strong assertion of female strength. She works in a robust high-fired stoneware using under-glaze colours and oxides. Eilean is Emeritus Professor of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester.
Richard and Eilean will be in residence at various times in the gallery from Sat 10 - Sat 24 as part of North Devon Art Trek and Richard is running a still life painting workshop on Sat 24th and Eilean a paperclay sculpture workshop on Sat 1 October
