Press Release 31 October 2017
Plough Arts Centre sets sights on becoming accessible for ALL performers
Steph Hurley has Cerebral Palsy but that doesn’t stop the 22 year old from performing on stage at her favourite space, The Plough Arts Centre.
Recently she was also a bit of a film star appearing alongside John Cooper Clarke and dancers from the Candoco Dance Company in a video to support The Plough’s bid for funding to help them become accessible for ALL performers.
The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington has applied to the Aviva Community Fund to help make their dressing rooms and backstage area accessible for all performers.
Steph was very pleased to be involved and her mum Alisa wrote to say:
“Steph says a very BIG THANK YOU for giving us the opportunity to do something to help and support you all with your funding bid.
The Plough has given Steph such a wonderful opportunity to participate in the drama and dance workshops and performances that she loves . We wouldn't have the opportunity to experience any of that without all of your team and any way that we can help you to continue to deliver such fantastic opportunities for people with disabilities so that they may participate in performance at the Plough, is something we are more than happy to support you with. Let's aim high in the hope of seeing all performers from near, and far have a much more accessible space in which to shine.”

The Plough is on a drive to make the arts centre as accessible as possible to everyone. Last year saw the installation of a new public lift. This year, after a full accessibility audit carried out by Living Options, Devon, the focus is on performers.
