Light can be explained as behaving both as a wave and as a particle. This exhibition features new and existing paintings and drawings that incorporate these ideas through observational studies of the sea, water, coastline, landscape, and organic abstraction.
The work is a celebration of the coast and land with its varied elemental qualities, and engages with concepts of chaos, complexity, tranquillity, perception and metaphor. The work is produced through observation and the intuitive creative process.

Some decades ago I was living in Hong Kong. It was here that I met a very strict, but wonderful Chinese art teacher. I moved to Devon, about four years ago, to live in a bungalow after many years of ill health. The Rheumatology Dept. diagnosed the “disease with a thousand faces”, Lupus. Thanks to rheumatology (NDDH), the rheumatology O.T. and the physiotherapist at Bideford Hospital plus my GP at Bideford, I once again paint on my good days.
I have put on joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, America and England, then a number of solo exhibitions, at St George’s Hall, Bristol and in... more

Following a stroke in 2006 which left her entire right hand side paralysed, Carol had to learn to draw and paint again using her left hand. Carol is an inspiration to other stroke sufferers who believe their lives have been shattered - it is a display of her determination not to be defeated. She has become again a fine painter; you would never know that she has had to "start from scratch".more
Richard Wood was a local artist who spent his whole life based in North Devon. At the age of 21 and already a promising young art student, Rich broke his neck in a diving accident which left him a tetraplegic. He trained himself to paint using his mouth and went on to become a professional painter for the Mouth and Foot Painters Association. Rich died at the age of 46 in January 2017. This exhibition is a celebration of his life and all that he achieved, showing work right through from his student days, encompassing traditional oils and watercolours, on to his later years when he began to... more
Robert Organ and Valerie Barden have exhibited widely over many years although rarely together, despite having been married for almost 60 years. They moved from East to North Devon a few years ago and this is their first show locally.
Curious fox clubs, a cete of badgers or feeding kingfishers, are some of the subjects of wildlife and nature photographer Wreford Leverton who will be presenting his work for the first time and would like to invite you to share his discovery of nature. Passionate about his hobby for over 20 years, his knowledge and understanding of the countryside has been the foundation for the stunning images he captures . He says, “It’s not luck, it’s doing the ground work and staking out that is rewarded with the shot”.
